Top 5 Star Wars Character NOT in Live Action

I was recently reading some of the new Star Wars cannon novels, namely Thrawn: Treason and it led me to want to feature some of the lesser known characters that may only be in the books or cartoons that I think Star Wars fans should check out. I know most of you reading this just want to see my list so I will be keep it short and to the point.

5. Cad Bane

Cad Bane is the coolest bounty hunter out there, far exceeding the overrated Boba Fett, or at least he was before we got The Mandalorian. Cad is resourceful and dangerous. This is the type of bounty hunter that is more than capable of going toe to toe with a Jedi and coming out on top. Throughout the course of The Clone Wars series, he outwits several Jedi, including Anakin and Obi-Wan.

Where to find Cad Bane;

  • TV
    • Star Wars The Clone Wars

4. Eli Vanto

Eli is one of the protege of Thrawn, an elite Chiss Grand Admiral in the Galactic Empire. I got to know Eli most in Thrawn and Thrawn: Treason via the audio narration of Marc Thompson. Eli is a simple young man from a good but fairly normal family. He is extremely smart and helps Thrawn a great deal in the two books in which he is prominently featured. Please check him out.

Where to find Eli:

  • Cannon Novels
    • Thrawn
    • Thrawn: Treason

3. Asajj Ventress

Asajj is best known as the apprentice of Count Dooku in The Clone Wars cartoons. She is cunning and evil at first but her character undergoes an amazing character arc in the show which goes into further depth in the book Dark Disciple where she teams up with Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos. I love her ability, strong willed nature and depth of character.

Where to find Asajj Ventress:

  • TV
    • Star Wars The Clone Wars
  • Cannon Novels
    • Dark Disciple

2. Ashoka Tano

It should come as no surprise that I bring up Ashoka. It was tough to put anyone above her as she is such a fascinating character. Ashoka has a mind of her own and is extremely strong with the force. Easily one of the most beloved characters in Star Wars, she was a major character in The Clone Wars, plays a prominent role in Star Wars Rebels, has a book which follows what happens to her after the events of The Clone Wars and is getting her live action debut in season 2 of The Mandalorian. I won’t recommend her book as it is pretty bland and boring but her appearances in the cartoons are a delight and should be enjoyed.

Where to find Ashoka:

  • TV
    • Star Wars The Clone Wars
    • Star Wars Rebels
  • Cannon Novels:
    • Ashoka

1. Thrawn

Thrawn is becoming my favorite Star Wars character period. Palpatine is still slightly ahead of him but it is really close. Thrawn has unmatched military prowess and an ability to outwit his opponents at every turn. His best material is in the books, both the cannon and non cannon works but he can also be found as the main villain in Star Wars Rebels seasons 3 and 4. He only ends up getting defeated because good guys have to win, not because Ezra and co are all that capable. Additionally, I’m not convinced that we have heard the last of Thrawn, especially considering some of what is the last book of the first Thrawn trilogy Thrawn: Treason.

Where to find Thrawn:

  • TV
    • Star Wars Rebels
  • Cannon novels:
    • Thrawn
    • Thrawn: Alliances
    • Thrawn: Treason
    • Thrawn: Ascendency Chaos Rising
  • Legends novels:

    • Dark Force Rising
    • The Last Command
