Get Your Mind off of Covid-19 – 10 Video Games to play During Quarantine

Here we are in a crazy world and may of us find ourselves with extra time to binge TV, movies, read comics and more. Well, as the gamer guy I feel it is my quarantine duty to provide a list of 10 games to play during this time of quarantine. Check out this list below for my recommendations for games to play right now. While the order is no indication of which is the best to play, the last game on this list is a particularly interesting one for our current circumstances.

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4)

Square, you sly fox. I have waited decades for the remake of this game and it is finally here. Final Fantasy VII Remake takes the Midgar portion of the original game and remakes it in stunning visuals with some new story beats and an ending that has divided the fan base. It’s a great single player world to escape to and available for the PS4 exclusively for a year.

2. Halo Master Chief Collection (Xbox, PC)

The Master Chief Collection is an amazing game to play both in person and online. One of the few split screen games still around, it fills a big gap for many gamers. Well, during a period of quarantine and social distancing, jumping back into your favorite campaigns or wrecking newbs in multiplayer is a sure fire way to pass the time with some friends online.

3.Assassins Creed Odyssey (Xbox, PS4, PC)

Looking for a sprawling open world full of outstanding visuals and a choice system? Look no further than Assassin’s Creen Odyssey. I have sunk over 100 hours into this game and still have a lot of content left that I can explore. If you can spring for the gold edition with the season pass, I recommend it. The DLC story lines are fun and new areas beautiful and majestic. With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla coming later this year, now is as good a time as ever to jump back in.

4. Destiny 2 (PC, Xbox One, PS4)

Destiny is a franchise that I have spent many hours in, upwards of 2000 all platforms totaled up. It’s a franchise I step away from and come back to but right now is a great time to jump in. Run some strikes, grab some loot, get a raid party going or step into the Crucible and face off against other guardians. Whatever you choose to do, Destiny 2 offers up a great amount of fun and never ending content. Bonus, you can get it for free and play the first year of content and then purchase the additional content if you feel it scratches that itch.

5. The Witcher 3 (Xbox, PS4, PC, Switch)

Never has a world immersed me so deeply and never have I felt I received more value from a game as The Witcher 3. This is a must buy for any RPG fan. The 2015 game still holds up and is a love story to fantasy and RPGs. CD Projeckt Red, the developers behind the series know how to build stories and quests in such an engaging way. It isn’t a joke when people say that a side quest in The Witcher 3 has more story than the entirety of Destiny 1’s base game. Buckle up and dive head first into this gritty (not for kids) world and take your mind off of the pandemic in style.

6. God of War (PS4)

My game of the year for 2018 and one of the greatest games ever made, God of War offers a rich story, emotional connections and out of this world music. If you own a PS4 this is a must buy. If you don’t own a PS4, get one just for this game and it will be worth the money. The reboot to the God of War franchise does an incredible job of honoring the original stories and providing a fresh new take on the series. Be prepared for top of the line combat, breathtaking visuals and a story that is better than almost any I have seen.

7. Spider-Man (PS4)

If you are looking for a more kid friendly game, Spider-Man is a perfect fit. Everyone knows the character and most love him. Insomiac has something special on their hands with this one and I think you are missing out big time if you don’t check it out.

8. Call of Duty: Warzone (Xbox, PS4, PC)

I will admit I have not actually played Warzone yet so I cannot review it but I can say for a fact that you will not be the only one online. Warzone is a battle royal take on Call of Duty and one popular adventure. Jump in solo or with friends and see how long you can last.

9. Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

Recently I decided to replay Horizon: Zero Dawn and I am glad I did. The world will transport you to a place of extremely beauty and peace and the combat will unravel that peace and get your heart pumping in the very next moment. Horizon tells the story of Aloy, a young adult woman who is discovering this world herself having been living as an outcast her entire life until now. Journey alongside the charming Aloy and discover the secrets left behind by those that came before. This story is a great addition to any sci-fi fan’s repertoire and fun as all get out.

10. Death Stranding (PS4)

Want the most relatable game ever to be played right now? Check out Death Stranding where the world has been taken down and everyone is forced to quarantine for their own safety. You play as Sam Porter Bridges and you job is to reconnect America by making deliveries and opening up the Chiral network which allows people to communicate and connect with each other again. I admit this could be a bit too real for people right now but I could also see the catharsis in engaging in such a game right now. From the mind of Kojima, your mind will be tested and you will have no idea what is going on. If you are anything like me though, you will adore the essence of the story and be engrossed in this somber world populated with invisible monsters, acid rain and a slow methodical gameplay. It isn’t for everyone but it is 100% for me and may be right up your alley during quarantine.

These are just a few games that can be played right now during quarantine. Let me know below what you think of my list and what you are playing right now. I’d love to hear your recommendations as I am always game for something new to play.
