You can find a redeeming quality in every Spider-Man movie that’s hit the big screen. In Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, it was Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of an innocent, slightly naïve, Peter Parker and J.K Simmons brilliant take on J. Jonah Jameson. Mark Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man brought the spunky Spider-Man that we had all been clamoring for and that death of Gwen Stacy scene appeared to jump right out of the comics at times. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man brought us the naïve teenager who actually looks like he’s in high school but also brought us the spunky kid when he’s in the suit who freaks out every time he meets an Avenger.
So, after the success of Sony Animations “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse”, why wouldn’t Disney see if they can catch lightening in a bottle for the second time? Amy Pascal, former head of Sony, recently gave her thoughts on the idea of a crossover.
“There are [possibilities]. Everything is possible. It would be very interesting, in this sense, the multiverse is a winning idea, because it opens up endless possibilities.”
The only person we haven’t heard from regarding this, is the person with all the decision making power, Kevin Feige, who has shown us that he doesn’t normally reference other movies in his projects. I mean the fact that we have two Sherlock’s and two Watson’s in the MCU and no one has said “No shit Sherlock” is a travesty.
So, if you had your way would you like to see a live action Spider-Verse, or should we just leave the MCU the way it is? I for one would love to see this happen. So I’ve taken the liberty of detailing the TOP 10 things I would want to see in a live action Spider-Verse movie.
Vincent D’Onofrio return as Kingpin
I am assuming they wouldn’t want the exact storyline developed into live action (although, that seems to be Disney’s thing now i.e.. Lion King, Aladdin, Jungle Book…) But this would be a great way to adapt, what is regarded by many as the best Netflix Marvel casting, Kingpin into the MCU. Vincent D’Onofrio IS Kingpin.
Recently revealed that his character, who had a small cameo in all three of Raimi’s films, would eventually turn out to be Mysterio, how cool would it be to see a Jake Gyllenhaal and Bruce Campbell team up?
Ryan Reynolds introduction into the MCU
Since this movie has the potential of being very 4th wall breaking, who better to do the breaking than the Merc with a Mouth? Besides the fact that this movie could be a way to introduce Deadpool into the MCU, a joke could even be made that he kinda looks like Spiderman.
J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson
Who didn’t love him in this role? There have been rumors since Spider-Man’s introduction in the MCU that Ice Cube was being courted for this role, it would essentially be the same role he played in 21 Jump Street.
A Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire fight
Friends for decades, Tobey and Jake were both up for the part of Spider-Man for Raimi’s adaptations. Who knew that it would come full circle that they could both potentially be in one together?
Reference to the 90’s animated Spider-Man world
Whatever Marvel was doing in the 90’s worked, because in addition to the stellar X-Men The Animated Series, Marvel delivered this gem that typically gets overshadowed because of how great the former is. Not to mention that this is the Venom that I identify most with.
Tom Hardy fighting Topher Grace as Venom
I was initially excited for Topher Grace’s Venom after that first teaser trailer dropped that saw Venom lunging toward the camera, but ultimately after seeing the movie I was let down. An argument could be made that this movie is where Topher’s fall from stardom started. Maybe he should get a second shot?
Tobey Maguire flirting with Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May not realizing that she is his aunt
It is an alternate universe so is she technically his aunt? This would only work if Kirsten Dunst’s MJ has left the picture and Tobey plays the down and out Spider-Man version Jake Johnson gave us in the animated movie.
Donald Glover as the prowler
I get that it will happen eventually but I am so excited to see Glover suit up. This could also spearhead Miles Morales’s introduction into the MCU
The return of Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock
One of the best villain castings of all time, you could argue that Molina’s portrayal of Doc Ock is what made Spider-Man 2 so good. I so badly want to see Tom Holland fight against his former mentor but I have a hard time seeing anyone else in the role. Plus, Molina deserves a better end than sinking into the river.
So there it is Crunchers, what do you think? What would you like to see if an MCU version of Into The Spider-Verse came to life?
