Even if they were bad we loved them. Its been 20 years and they didn’t hold to the test of time? Who cares! Here is The Series Sergeant’s list of the Top 10 Disney Live Action Movies from the 90’s!
*Disclaimer: List does not include Star Wars, Marvel, or Fox properties.
10
The Mighty Ducks
Though it spawned a few sequels and even an animated series about crime fighting ducks who play hockey and talk, “The Mighty Ducks” will always hold a special place in our hearts. Here’s hoping a remake or continuation hits the silver screen soon.
9
Angels in the Outfield
Featuring a spry Christopher Lloyd and a prepubescent Joseph Gordon Levitt, “Angels in the Outfield” appealed to the sports fan in all of us.
8
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
Talking dogs and cats, Michael J Fox, Sally Field? This is a fantastic movie and one that gets very little love in the Disney timeline. Not even a blu-ray release? C’mon Disney!
7
Flubber
One of Robin Williams more quirky roles, “Flubber” is another movie that could possibly use the reboot treatment. If they remade the Genie, nothings sacred right?
6
Heavyweights
As a former fat kid, Ben Stiller terrified me in this movie. Not to mention, some of our favorite people still in show business today worked on this movie, including Kenan Thompson, Paul Feig, Jeffrey Tambor, and Judd Apatow to name a few.
5
Cool Running’s
“Nuff people say they know they can’t believe, Jamaica we have a bobsled team”.
It seems that Disney had a love of sports movies in this era. This one makes the list because of heartfelt story and the late great John Candy.
4
The Parent Trap
Arguably to blame for Lindsay Lohan’s troubles after wards. This movie is still heavily played on cable television to this day.
3
The Santa Clause
The reason this isn’t number 1? “Santa Clause 3”
We reached the final 2! Here is some noteworthy mentions that barely missed the list.
Newsies – Only on here as a mention because everyone else liked it, me? Not so much.
Honey, I Blew Up The Kid – The better movie, “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” was released in 1989
Muppet Treasure Island and Muppet Christmas Carol – Alfred and Pennywise? ‘Nuff said
Rocketman – Harland Williams had one of the best cameos in “Dumb and Dumber” They made a movie about it in space.
2
The Rocketeer
Reboots, sequels, spinoffs, and comics have been teased or in production for years. It seems we may finally get one. “The Rocketeer” often gets confused for a “superhero” type movie and its more than that. It’s a period piece that I imagine could fit in the MCU (If universes collided) next to Captain America. A sequel, “The Rocketeers”, is supposedly in production.
1
Hocus Pocus
“Hocus Pocus” is considered a classic even outside the hearts of Disney fans everywhere. Just like “The Rocketeer”, fans have been clamoring for a sequel to this Halloween classic for years and as recently as 2017 had a screen writer attached. Here’s hoping that we receive news on it soon!
Well! There you have it, another Cruncher Top 10 in the books. What was your favorite entry? Is there something I missed? Sound off below!
