Season 2 of Netflix The Punisher comes out this Friday January 18th and I decided to dive back into season 1. I am surprised I was able to do it but over the last 2 days I re-watched the entirety of season 1 which reaffirmed my opinion that this is a beautiful work of television. Jon Bernthal was born to play Frank Castle and shows audiences the brutal side of Marvel. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist have nothing on the brutality seen on this show. I am still amazed at just how violent they went. Granted the Punsher is a character that warrants it but I was initially surprised to see how deep they leaned into the violence.
From the trailers of season 2 it doesn’t appear that Netflix is holding back on that end. Season 1 left off with David Lieberman AKA Micro going back to his family, Frank assuming the identity Pete and Madani a hero with Homeland Security. While I want David to remain at peace with his family I grew to love the character and hope we get to see more of him in this upcoming season. Madani we know will be there but I personally don’t care if she plays a big role or not. She was fine but nothing special in my opinion. I want to see Frank and David giving each other a hard time and working together to take down the bad guys. If Madani is involved cool but ultimately I am here for the bromance between those two.
Considering how last season was a spy thriller I am interested to see where they take season 2. We don’t have much more time to wait luckily and I am sure it will be action packed and full of blood. Frank Castle doesn’t live a clean and peaceful life. I fully expect to see him sustain far more injuries than any real person could sustain and somehow he will still keep fighting and be a badass while doing so.
The Punisher season 1 was an intelligent show and one that I understood better on my second viewing these last couple days. I sincerely hope we get more of the same with this season. I enjoy shows that make me think that keep me wondering what is going on. The rivalry between Castle and Russo is sure to excite and it will be riveting to see the difference between Danny Russo and his new identity Jigsaw. I look forward to seeing these two confront one another again and hope Castle puts him down for good this time. Leaving him alive was a strange thing to do for The Punisher but something we get to see paid off in just a few days. Stay tuned for more on The Punisher in the coming days Crunchers as it is sure to be blood pumping, action filled delight!
