The world’s most popular manga, Shonen Jump, is now available for free. Shonen Jump is home to all the most popular titles of Japanese manga most of us have ever heard of, including Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and of course, all of the other Dragon Balls. There are also titles not related to dragons or balls, like Boruto, One Piece, and My Hero Academia. While these titles always were available for a reasonable price, the folks at Japanese publisher, Shueisha, and its American distributor channel, VIZ Media, have made these titles, and dozens more, completely free. Checking in on a weekly basis allows you access to all the most popular titles.
Now, the free access only gets you the most recent three weeks’ releases. But, if you want to catch up on any of the hundreds of manga titles and get access to older or completed series, that access will cost you $1.99 per month.
I have been a subscriber for over 10 years, from the mailed monthly magazine days. Then the magazine went digital, and weekly, allowing greater access to new titles, like One Punch Man. Every Monday, the same day the comics release in Japan, you could get to read up to 180 pages for just $0.50 per week. But with the latest iteration of Shonen Jump, VIZ Media has gone further to bring America the best manga titles. It’s free, it’s digital, and it’s same-day as Japan.
The stories are diverse and high quality. You like adventure? Try One Piece or Dragon Ball. You like fighting? Try One Punch Man. Naruto has ninjas. Bleach has swords and ghostwriting. Dr. Stone has science. Food Wars has cooking. There is a manga for everyone.
The only challenge is that reading manga is done in the opposite direction, right to left.
But, honestly, it’s not that hard to figure out.
So, do yourself a favor and go to www.viz.com, or download the VIZ Media app, and start reading some amazing stories.
I give the all new Shonen Jump app a full couch!
It’s also free.
