Scott Snyder already had an awesome career…then Dark Nights Metal occurred. We learned that Scott was just getting started. The characters that came to our Dimension because of the Metal event continue to scare us.
The Batman Who Laughs is arguably one of the scariest villains that Batman has faced. He’s very literally the fear and ill-desires of Batman incarnate. With all of the training, skills, and strength of Batman, he is powered by the evil intentions of Batman.
This new series by Scott Snyder is continuing the dark trend that was released during the Metal event. It starts out providing some history, and a source of strength in Bruce’s life. However, it takes a weird twist when Bruce Wayne discovers his own dead body being smuggled from the City. Only…it’s not his own body. It’s Bruce Wayne, but the Bruce Wayne that existed up until a few years ago.
The story barely introduces it’s titled character until 2/3rd’s of the way through the book. His few parts, while small, begin the larger process of Batman trying to discover how to defeat him. An unnatural alliance is formed out of necessity. One that quickly turns into a much scarier Batman.
If you’re a fan of Scott Snyder and his storytelling abilities, you’ll love this comic book. It’s dark, it’s twisted, it takes some massive turns that you would never expect. We begin to see what level of darkness Batman is going to have to descend to in order to defeat the Batman Who Laughs.
