Upgrade – Review

This is a spoiler free review!

If you’re like me, you saw the preview for Upgrade with Logan Marshall-Green and thought “This will be a lot of action with absolutely no story”. However, we’re Sci-Fi fans, which means that we’re going to spend our hard earned money to go watch it regardless of how bad the previews look.

What do we get for our sacrifice and time? I hidden gem! Upgrade was a fantastic movie. It may be because I went in with no expectations for the movie except that it’d have explosions and violence. However, the movie had a decent storyline. It’s nothing new: man loves woman, man loses woman, man gets opportunity for revenge and takes it.

There is a ton of violence in this movie. It is extremely violent, bloody and gruesome. Definitely not for those with weak stomachs.

The movie is set in the not so distant future. It tells the story of a man who refuses to follow the times and still prefers to work with his hands. He still prefers grease on his hands. Little does he know that it is because of this that he would be “chosen” to receive a computer implant that would provide him with functionality that he lost.

He soon learns that he was never in control, but being controlled. The end of the movie has a very reminiscent feel of Inception. You can’t help but feel happy and at peace with the way the movie ends for Logan’s character, Grey.

I give the movie 4 couch cushions and a throw pillow. The acting was good, the story was good, the action was great. The movie exceeded my expectations!
