Hello all, J The Comic Creep here and it looks as if that glorious day is upon us once again, New Comic Book Day! My favorite day of the week! The Creep’s Comic Book Compendium is a list and brief commentary of new comic books that I will be picking up this week. As always, there’s lots of new stuff to get excited about! Darth Vader is fuming and wants Ackbar’s head on a platter (with a nice lemon butter sauce YUM!), The Justice League embark in a bold new direction against a formidable cosmic baddie and The Avengers join the hunt for Wolverine’s carcass! Now, let’s go grab a grip o’ funny books!
Detective Comics #980 – Written by James Tynion IV, Art by: Scot Eaton, Wayne Faucher, Raul Fernandez, Alvaro Martinez Ulysses continues to tinker with Tim Drakes noggin, the Colony’s malfunctioning tin soldiers continue to pound Gotham City into rubble! The “Batmen Eternal” story arc enters its 5th part here and it’s a duh-oozy!
Flash #46 – Written by Joshua Williamson Art by Scott Kolins, Dan Panosian At the end of the last issue, Iris, Barry and Wally finally have that long overdue love fest but things begin to unravel with Wally as soon as he spoke to Iris! Suddenly he began to remember across time streams and his Speed Force began to get all kooky on him, we’re now on the “Road to Flash War!”
Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps #44 – Written by Robert Venditti, Art by Brandon Peterson, Rafael Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona Things aren’t looking so good for our merry band of space cops! John, Guy, Hal and Kyle go after Tomar Tu and the Darkstars only to find they’re hopelessly out gunned and out manned. In a desperate move, the Green Lanterns have to turn to some unsavory folks for help but how low will they go?
Justice League: No Justice #1 – Written by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson, Art by Francis Manapul
My pick for “Creep’s Coveted Book of the Week!” Super exciting new 4 issue series coming in hot after Dark Knights: Metal! Everytime I look at this creative team I tremble with excitement! The heroes of the DC universe must unite to face one of the biggest threats their world has ever seen! New teams and friendships will be forged! Hang on tight because this is sure to be one nutty ride!
Suicide Squad #41 – Written by Rob Williams, Art by Jos Luis, Jordi Tarragona, Guillem March Truth time, I dropped Suicide Squad a little while ago because it got a smidge boring for me. But this is the beginning of a new arc starring Bats and Deadshot! Deadshot’s daughter had been kidnapped and it’s up to Deadshot and Batman to save her. But apparently Amanda Waller is none too pleased. Seems pretty great to me, I’m jumping back on the train again!
Wonder Woman #46 – Written by James Robinson, Art by Stephen Segovia, Jenny Frison
After Diana defeated Darkseid who was left dumbfounded and the Amazon’s imprisoned a tearful Grail, everything ended in a love fest between Wonder Woman, her big dim witted brother Jason and Steve Trevor in the last issue. A new story arc titled “Dark Gods” begins here! It’s a perfect jumping in point, come along!
Analog #2 – Written by Gerry Duggan, Art by David O’Sullivan, Jordie Bellaire, Phil Noto The year is 2024 and Jack McGinnis is an analog guy living in a digital world, I can certainly relate! But things begin to get heavy when Jack’s been offered a job by a billionaire who wants to awaken AI and overthrow the government! The first issue was fantastic, I’m back for more and I think I’m going to be here a while!
ISOLA #2 – Written by Brenden Fletcher, Art by Karl Kerschl, Msassyk, Karl Kerschl Another winner for me last month! Just the art alone is so beautifully done, but the story is just as captivating. A young captain is leading her Queen to safety through a perilous land. Oh and did I mention the Queen is a tiger? In their journey so far they’ve encountered friends and foes but can the young Captain Rook and her Queen sort them out?
Medieval Spawn/Witchblade #1 – Written by Brian Holguin, Brian Haberlin, Art by Brian Haberlin Sherman, set the Wayback Machine to 1995! It’s Spawny and the Witch in an all new adventure that I’m sure will be filled with murkiness, a boat load of brooding and shadows in all directions. I’m sure there will be a lot of fun in there as well, so I’m in!
Domino #2 – Written by Gail Simone , Art by David Baldeon, Greg Land Just when things are looking good for Nena Thurman (AKA the marvelous mercenary Domino) she receives the face pummeling of a lifetime. And at her own birthday party no less! Who is the mysterious Topaz and why won’t Dom’s powers working against her?!
Hunt for Wolverine: The Adamantium Agenda # 1 – Written by Tom Taylor, Art by R. B. Silva, Greg Land Now “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” join the search for Wolvie! After the Reavers attempted to harvest the Adamantium from old fur face, everyone discovers Wolverine isn’t where they buried him! So the Avengers come in to look for Logan (AKA James Howlett AKA worst comic book here name EVER) to ensure no baddies get in on the Adamantium action first.
Old Man Logan #39 – Written by Ed Brisson, Art by Ibraim Roberson, Mike Deodato After that big huge debacle with Bullseye and The Kingpin in the last few issues, Wolvie is spent! Remember bub, this guy is old and that healing factor just doesn’t work like it did back in the day. So Logan goes hobbling back to the X-Mansion to lick his wounds. Do you think Wolverine will finally get some well-deserved rest and relaxation at Xavier’s School for Gifted Weirdos? No, me either.
Darth Vader #16 – Written by Charles Soule, Art by Elia Bonetti, Giuseppe Camuncoli The fish heads are giving the Empire a run for their money and Tarkin is peeved! After a substantial defeat in the last issue, Vader and his Inquisitors have regrouped and are fuming, foot stomping mad! They have their eyes fixed on the Jedi that had been hiding on Mon Cala and they will not stop until they taste blood! But now the Jedi knows he’s being hunted! What surprises will he have waiting for old bucket head?
