The long rumored Sonic the Hedgehog movie has found a studio and director according The Hollywood Reporter. Neal H. Moritz and Tim Miller (Deadpool) are teaming up with Paramount to bring the film to life. Paramount recently obtained the rights to the titular character and Moritz will direct with Miller as an executive producer.
The film will be follow Sonic and friends and will be a blend of live action and CGI. Further details are scarce at this time but we do know that Sonic is headed to the big screen for the first time.
Video game movies have been poorly received throughout the years leading this cruncher to wonder if this will be good or not. When I hear mix of CGI and live action, my thoughts go to Garfield and the disaster of a movie that was. Perhaps they will mesh the two better than I am expecting but I think we would be better suited with Sonic all animated and as a PG children movie. I hope they don’t try to make this a summer blockbuster to rival the superhero films of today. Regardless, I am happy to see this childhood icon coming to the big screen. I wish Paramount, Moritz and Miller the best of luck!
