Classic Superman Music to Feature Justice League

Danny Elfman, composer for Justice League was recently interviewed by Billboard. In the interview, Elfman spoke of Justice League and let slip some details about the music and Superman’s role in the film. Below are his exact words:

“There are a few little fan moments. I instated a moment of the Wonder Woman theme that Hans Zimmer did for Batman Vs. Superman, but I also had two minutes where I had the pleasure of saying, “Let’s do John Williams’Superman.” and that for me was heaven, because now I have a melody to twist, and I’m using it in an actually very dark way, in a dark moment. It’s the kind of thing that some fans will notice. Some won’t. It’s a moment where we’re really not sure whose side he’s on.”

While it isn’t a surprise to anyone that Superman is in the film, this is yet another confirmation that he will be fighting the Justice League. Again this isn’t surprising but Elfman has confirmed it yet again. I look forward to a black suited Superman fighting the League and I hope I catch his redone version of the Superman theme mentioned above. I’ve seen some day that this is lazy composing whereas I feel like it is a clever way to engage with fans.

For those who are unaware, Danny Elfman has composed the music for Superhero films in the past. His appointment as the composer was a great choice. Other than Hans Zimmer and perhaps John Williams, there is no one else I would like to see compose this film. Elfman is the man behind Batman: The Animated Series, The Flash series from the 1990’s,  Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Hellboy II: Golden Army, Batman, Batman Returns and much more. He’s been a part of many DC projects throughout the years and is a great fit for this role. His background and portfolio speak for themselves making him an ideal composer for the first live action team up of our DC heroes.

Justice League launches November 17, 2017. It is directed by Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon. It stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Mamoa and Ray Fisher as the members of the Justice League in their fight against Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds).
